What is the difference between PARA (AIRBORNE) and PARA SF Battalions of Indian Army?
The main aim of The Parachute Regiment is quick deployment of the soldiers behind the enemy lines to attack the enemy from behind and destroy their strategic targets.
The Parachute Regiment consist of 9 Special Forces battalions,5 airborne battalions, 1 Commando Battalion, 2 TA Battalions.
PARA (AIRBORNE): These are Elite Forces. PARA (AIRBORNE) Bns operate in large teams and coordinate with other units, as their role involves occupying large areas behind enemy lines. PARA Bns operating in strength are focused on air assault, coup de main, raids and rear area disruption missions along with providing the spearhead elements of our National Rapid Reaction Capabilities.
PARA (SF): These are designated special forces unit of Indian Army. PARA SF units operate in small assault teams, which work individually behind enemy lines. PARA (SF) units work in small teams and are focused on operations other than war and on strategic reconnaissance,surveillance and target designation and direct action tasks.
